How much can I reduce an image file size?+
For typical DSLR or smartphone photos, file size can be reduced by 60-80% at 80% quality with no visible difference. A 10 MB photo can become 1-2 MB without any noticeable degradation.
Does reducing file size change the image dimensions?+
No. Compression only affects encoding and quality data - the pixel dimensions (width × height) stay exactly the same unless you also use the resize tool.
What is the best way to reduce image size for email?+
For email, target 300-500 KB. Use 80% quality JPEG compression. If the image needs to be very small (under 100KB), use our Compress Image to 100KB tool.
