Frequently asked questions

Can I skip numbering on the first page?
Yes. You can configure which page to start numbering from, allowing you to skip cover pages or title pages.
What number formats are available?
Standard numeric (1, 2, 3), Roman numerals (i, ii, iii), and you can set a custom starting number.
Can I add Roman numerals instead of numbers?
Yes. The tool supports standard Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3), uppercase Roman numerals (I, II, III), and lowercase Roman numerals (i, ii, iii). Roman numerals are conventional for front matter in books and academic theses, while Arabic numerals suit most business documents.
Can I exclude the first page from numbering?
Yes. Set the 'Start on page' value to 2 and the first page (usually a cover or title page) will be left unnumbered. The numbering sequence begins on the second page, so page 2 shows '1' or whatever starting number you configure.
What positions can I place the page numbers?
Six positions are available: top-left, top-center, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-center, and bottom-right. Bottom-center is the most common for formal documents. Top-right is preferred in legal and academic formatting. The position applies uniformly across all numbered pages.
Will adding page numbers affect existing content?
The page numbers are added as a new content layer on top of the existing PDF. They do not push or reflow any existing text or images. If the document already has text near the margin where you place numbers, choose an alternative position or adjust the margin offset.
