General
Is ImageAndPDF.com really free?
Yes, every tool on the site is free to use. There are no subscriptions, no paywalls, no hidden charges, and no watermarks added to your files. You can use all tools as many times as you need without creating an account.
Browse all 70+ tools →Do I need to create an account?
No account is required. Visit any tool page, upload your file, and start processing immediately. We deliberately built the site this way, extra friction (signup, email verification) just gets in the way when you need to compress a PDF quickly.
How many files can I process per day?
There are no daily limits or usage caps. Use any tool as many times as you like.
Which browsers work with ImageAndPDF.com?
All modern browsers are supported: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera. For AI-powered tools like background removal and image upscaling, Chrome or Edge give the best performance because they support WebGPU acceleration. Keep your browser updated to the latest version for the best experience.
Can I use these tools on my phone or tablet?
Yes. All tools are mobile-responsive. The document scanner is specifically optimised for mobile, it uses your phone camera to scan and digitise documents directly to PDF. Most image tools work well on mobile. For very large PDFs (50 MB+), a desktop browser handles processing faster due to more available memory.
How many tools are available?
Currently 70+ tools across PDF (merge, split, compress, edit, convert, sign, annotate, protect, and more), image (compress, resize, crop, remove background, upscale with AI, convert formats, and more), video (compress, convert, trim, extract audio), and business (invoice generator, bank statement to CSV). New tools are added regularly.
Privacy & Security
Are my files safe and private?
Yes. The site uses a two-tier approach. Many tools, including merge PDF, split PDF, compress PDF, sign PDF, crop image, resize image, remove background, and image upscaling, run directly in your browser, so for those tools your files stay on your device. Some features use secure server processing when the task requires it (for example Word to PDF, PDF to Word, and video tools): files are uploaded over HTTPS, processed, and deleted automatically within 1 hour. Each tool page explains how that tool handles your files. We do not sell your files or keep processed files longer than needed.
Which tools run entirely in my browser without uploading?
Merge PDF, split PDF, compress PDF, rotate PDF, sign PDF, annotate PDF, fill PDF, PDF to JPG, PDF to PNG, JPG to PDF, image to PDF, protect PDF, unlock PDF, page numbers, extract pages, remove pages, organise PDF, edit PDF, and on the image side: compress image, resize image, crop image, flip image, rotate image, remove background, upscale image, grayscale, blur, sharpen, brightness, contrast, sepia, black & white, hue & saturation, add text, add border, add timestamp, QR generator, meme generator, favicon generator, image to JPG, JPG to PNG, WebP conversion, image metadata, and zip images. These tools process your file in your browser, so it stays on your device; other features that need more processing power use secure server processing, as noted on each tool page.
What about server-side tools, when are files deleted?
Files uploaded for server-side tools (Word to PDF, Excel to PDF, PowerPoint to PDF, PDF to Word, PDF to Excel, video compression, video conversion, video trimming) are automatically deleted within 1 hour of processing. We do not retain, access, or share your files.
Do you collect personal data?
We use anonymous analytics (Google Analytics) to understand which tools are popular and where site traffic comes from. No personal information is collected. We do not track individual users, sell data, or use cookies beyond what is required for the site to function.
Is the connection encrypted?
Yes. All connections to imageandpdf.com use HTTPS with TLS. The site enforces Strict-Transport-Security, so even if you type http:// you are automatically redirected to the secure version.
Can I safely process confidential documents?
For maximum privacy, use the browser-side tools listed above, your files physically never leave your device. For documents that contain highly sensitive information, avoid server-side tools (Word to PDF, video tools) unless you are comfortable with files being processed on a server and deleted immediately.
PDF Tools
How do I merge multiple PDFs into one?
Go to the Merge PDF tool, drag and drop all the PDFs you want to combine, reorder them by dragging the thumbnail cards, then click Merge PDF. The merged file downloads immediately. This runs entirely in your browser, no upload.
Merge PDF free →What is the maximum file size for PDF tools?
Browser-side PDF tools (merge, split, compress, sign, rotate, etc.) can handle files up to your browser's available memory, typically 200–500 MB without issues on a modern machine. Server-side conversion tools (Word to PDF, PDF to Word) accept files up to 200 MB.
How much does PDF compression reduce file size?
Results vary by content. A PDF made mostly of scanned images can compress 60–80%. A text-only PDF typically compresses 20–40%. The compress PDF tool uses a multi-engine approach: the browser-side engine removes embedded metadata, unused fonts, and redundant streams; there is also a server-side engine using Ghostscript for heavier compression of image-heavy PDFs.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
You need to unlock it first. Use the Unlock PDF tool to remove the password (you will need the current password), then run it through Compress PDF.
How do I convert PDF to Word (DOCX)?
Upload your PDF to the PDF to Word tool. The conversion runs on the server. Simple PDFs with standard fonts convert cleanly. Scanned PDFs or PDFs with complex layouts may need minor formatting corrections after conversion, this is a limitation of all PDF-to-Word converters, not specific to ours.
Convert PDF to Word →Can I edit text directly inside a PDF?
Yes. The Edit PDF tool lets you click on any text in the PDF and edit it in place. You can also add new text boxes, draw shapes, insert images, and highlight content. Everything runs in the browser and the edited file downloads as a standard PDF.
Edit PDF free →How do I sign a PDF digitally?
Open the Sign PDF tool, upload your PDF, then draw your signature with your mouse or finger, type your name as a handwriting-style signature, or upload an image of your signature. Position it anywhere on the document and download the signed PDF.
Sign PDF free →Can I add page numbers to an existing PDF?
Yes. The Page Numbers tool lets you choose the position (bottom-centre, bottom-right, top-centre, etc.), font size, starting number, and which pages to number. It runs entirely in the browser.
What is the difference between Annotate PDF and Edit PDF?
Edit PDF is for modifying existing text, click a word and change it. Annotate PDF is for adding comments, highlights, sticky notes, arrows, stamps, and review markup without altering the underlying document. Use Edit PDF when you need to change content; use Annotate PDF for reviewing and commenting.
Image Tools
What image formats are supported?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG, and HEIC (iPhone photos). HEIC files are automatically converted before editing, no manual conversion step needed.
How does AI background removal work?
The Remove Background tool uses a machine learning model that runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly. It identifies the subject in the photo, separates it from the background, and outputs a PNG with a transparent background. No image is uploaded to any server. The model loads on first use (~20 MB, cached after that) and runs directly on your device.
Remove background free →How does the AI image upscaler work?
The Upscale Image tool uses a super-resolution model that runs in your browser via ONNX Runtime. It enhances edges, restores detail, and increases resolution, up to 4× by default. The model runs on your device; nothing is uploaded.
Upscale image free →Does image compression reduce quality noticeably?
At 80% quality (our default), the compressed image is visually indistinguishable from the original in most cases. The quality slider lets you find the right balance. A live side-by-side preview updates in real time so you can see exactly what you are trading off before downloading.
How do I resize an image to exact pixel dimensions?
Open the Resize Image tool, type the target width and height in pixels, and choose whether to keep the original aspect ratio or stretch to exact dimensions. Download at full quality, no watermark.
Resize image free →Can I batch convert multiple images at once?
Yes. The Bulk Convert Images tool accepts multiple files at once and converts them all to your chosen output format (JPG, PNG, WebP). You can also use Zip Images to package multiple processed files into a single ZIP for easy download.
Does the image timestamp tool add EXIF data or a visible stamp?
The Add Timestamp tool adds a visible date/time stamp directly onto the image, the kind of text overlay you see on old cameras and security footage. You can customise the position, font size, colour, and format. It does not modify EXIF metadata (use Image Metadata tool for that).
Can I remove the background from a product photo?
Yes, that is one of the most common use cases. Upload your product photo, the AI removes the background, and you get a PNG with a transparent background ready for e-commerce listings, presentations, or graphic design work.
Video Tools
What video formats are supported?
Input: MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, MKV, WebM, and most other common formats. Output formats vary by tool: Compress Video outputs MP4, Video to MP4 converts to MP4, Video to GIF outputs animated GIF, Extract Audio outputs MP3.
What is the file size limit for video tools?
The upload limit is 200 MB. For reference, that covers roughly 5–20 minutes of video depending on resolution and bitrate. If your video is larger, trim it first using the Trim Video tool to reduce it below the limit.
How do I compress a video without losing quality?
Go to Compress Video, upload your file, and choose a compression level. "Medium" compression typically reduces file size by 40–60% with no noticeable quality difference at normal viewing sizes. "High" compression is more aggressive and suits sharing on messaging apps where file size matters more than pixel quality.
Can I extract just the audio from a video?
Yes. The Extract Audio tool strips the audio track from your video and saves it as an MP3 file. Upload your video, click Extract, and download the MP3. Useful for pulling audio from a recorded meeting, lecture, or interview.
How do I trim a video to a specific time range?
Use the Trim Video tool. Upload your video, drag the start and end handles on the timeline to select the segment you want, preview it, then click Trim & Download. The trimmed segment downloads as an MP4.
Document Scanner
How does the document scanner work?
The Document Scanner uses your device's camera to photograph documents. It automatically detects the document edges, corrects perspective distortion (removing the angle from holding the camera), enhances contrast for legibility, and converts the result to a PDF. Go to the Document Scanner page on your phone and tap the camera icon to start.
Can I scan multiple pages into one PDF?
Yes. After scanning the first page, tap "Add Page" to scan additional pages. All scanned pages are assembled into a single multi-page PDF when you download.
Do I need a dedicated app to scan documents?
No. The Document Scanner runs in your mobile browser, nothing to install. Open imageandpdf.com/document-scanner on your phone, grant camera permission, and start scanning.
What types of documents can I scan?
Contracts, receipts, invoices, letters, forms, handwritten notes, ID documents, business cards, books, and any flat document. The scanner works best with documents on a contrasting background.
Business Tools
What does the Invoice Generator create?
The Invoice Generator creates professional PDF invoices. Fill in your business name and contact details, the client's details, line items (description, quantity, rate), tax rate, notes, and payment terms. The invoice is generated instantly and downloads as a PDF you can send directly to clients.
Can I save invoice templates for reuse?
The tool saves your business information locally in your browser so it pre-fills on the next visit. You can also download invoices as PDF and keep them as templates.
Troubleshooting
The AI background removal / upscaling is very slow, why?
These tools download a machine-learning model (20–40 MB) the first time you use them. Subsequent uses load instantly from your browser's cache. The model also runs faster in Chrome and Edge (WebGPU acceleration) than in Firefox and Safari (CPU-only). If it is still slow, try closing other browser tabs to free up memory.
My file won't upload, what should I do?
Check that the file format is accepted by that tool and that the file is not corrupted. Check the file size against the limit (200 MB for most tools). Try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R) and attempt again.
The download button is not working, how do I fix this?
Your browser may be blocking pop-ups from the site. Open your browser settings and add an exception for imageandpdf.com to allow pop-ups and downloads. Also check that you have enough free storage on your device for the file.
PDF to Word conversion produced garbled text, is this normal?
Scanned PDFs (photos of documents rather than digitally-created PDFs) often produce imperfect conversions because the text was stored as an image, not as characters. Text-based PDFs (created by Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice) convert cleanly.
The tool is stuck at "Processing", what should I do?
Wait 2–3 minutes for very large files. If it is stuck for longer, do a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R) to clear any stuck state and try again. If the problem persists, try a different browser.
Conversion failed, what went wrong?
Some PDFs have non-standard fonts, encryption, or formatting that causes conversion errors. Try: (1) opening the file in its original app and re-saving it as a new file, then converting. (2) If it is a PDF, try running it through the Repair PDF tool first. (3) Use a different output format if available.
