Frequently asked questions

Can I rotate by a custom angle?
Yes. In addition to preset 90° increments, you can enter any custom rotation angle for precise adjustments.
Does rotation preserve image quality?
Yes. Rotation at 90° increments is lossless. Custom angle rotations may apply minimal resampling.
Why do phone photos sometimes appear sideways or upside down?
Modern smartphones use an accelerometer to record the camera orientation as EXIF metadata. Some apps and platforms read this EXIF data and auto-rotate the display; others ignore it and display the raw pixels. This makes photos appear wrong in certain contexts. Rotating the image and saving it burns the correct orientation into the pixels, eliminating the inconsistency across all platforms.
Can I rotate a JPG without losing quality?
Rotating JPEG images by exact 90° increments (90, 180, 270 degrees) can be done losslessly: the pixel blocks are rearranged without any re-compression. Custom angles require re-encoding because the JPEG grid no longer aligns with the new orientation, which applies minimal compression. PNG and WebP rotate fully losslessly at any angle.
Can I rotate multiple images at the same time?
Yes. You can upload multiple images in one session and apply the same rotation to all of them, or rotate each individually. This is useful for correcting a batch of scanned photos or fixing orientation on multiple product images at once before uploading to a website.
Does rotating an image affect its metadata?
The rotation is applied to the actual pixels. The EXIF Orientation tag is reset to 'normal' so the image displays correctly in all programs. No other metadata (camera model, date taken, GPS coordinates) is changed. The file size may vary slightly due to re-encoding.
