Questions & answers

Everything you might need to know before using the tool.

Does image compression reduce quality?+
JPEG compression is lossy, so very aggressive settings will reduce sharpness. At 75-85% quality the difference is invisible at normal viewing distances. Our tool lets you choose the exact trade-off.
Is my image uploaded to a server?+
No. All compression happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your file never leaves your device, which also makes it much faster.
Which image formats are supported?+
JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, and HEIC/HEIF. PNG and WebP are re-encoded as JPEG when targeting very small sizes for the best compression ratio.
How much can I compress an image?+
For typical smartphone photos (6-15 MB), you can usually reach 10-20× compression - e.g. 10 MB → under 500 KB - with no visible quality loss at 80% quality.
