Standard resizing makes images bigger by adding blurry, interpolated pixels. AI upscaling is different, it analyses the image and predicts realistic detail to add, producing a higher-resolution output that looks genuinely sharper, not just stretched. This free upscaler runs entirely in your browser using a super-resolution model.

The difference between conventional upscaling and AI upscaling is the source of the new pixels. Bicubic and Lanczos algorithms interpolate between existing pixels, the result gets bigger but also softer, because the extra pixels are mathematical averages. An AI super-resolution model has been trained on millions of image pairs: low-resolution inputs and their high-resolution originals. It learns to predict what realistic fine detail should look like and adds it, rather than averaging.

This matters for practical use cases. If you have an old photo at 640×480 that you want to print at 8×10 inches, conventional upscaling produces a visibly blurry print. AI upscaling restores edge sharpness and adds plausible texture, producing a print that looks significantly sharper. Similarly, if you're preparing a product photo for a marketplace that requires 1000×1000 pixels but your source is 400×400, AI upscaling gets it to the required size without the mushy quality conventional upscaling produces.

The model runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly and ONNX Runtime. It downloads once (~50 MB) and is cached, so subsequent uses are instant. Your image is never uploaded to any server. This is important for personal photos or client work where you need privacy.

How to use it

Three steps, under 30 seconds from upload to download.

  1. 1

    Upload your image

Drop a JPG, PNG, or WebP file onto the tool. Any resolution works, the AI model handles low-resolution sources particularly well.

  2. 2

    Choose scale factor

    Select 2× or 4× upscaling. 2× doubles each dimension (a 500px image becomes 1000px). 4× quadruples it (500px becomes 2000px).

  3. 3

    Download the enhanced result

Click Upscale. Processing takes 5–30 seconds depending on image size and your device. Download the result as a high-resolution PNG.

Common use cases

Real-world scenarios where this tool is the fastest solution.

Printing small photos at large sizes

Old family photos or smartphone snapshots often lack the resolution needed for large prints. AI upscaling adds realistic detail so a 640×480 photo can be printed at 8×10 without visible blur.

E-commerce product images

Marketplaces like Amazon and Etsy require product images at minimum 1000×1000 pixels. If your product photos are smaller, AI upscaling brings them to the required size with sharpness conventional resizing cannot match.

Restoring old or low-quality images

Scanned photos, screenshots, or images saved at low resolution for web use can be upscaled and sharpened, recovering visible detail that was lost when the file was originally saved small.

Game and graphic asset scaling

Small sprite sheets, icons, and interface assets can be upscaled 2× or 4× for higher-DPI displays while preserving crisp edges.

What makes this different

AI super resolution, not just stretching

Predicts and adds realistic detail rather than averaging existing pixels like conventional resizing.

2× and 4× scale options

Choose the right enlargement factor for your target output size.

Runs fully in your browser

The AI model runs locally via ONNX Runtime. No upload, no server, no privacy risk.

PNG output for best quality

Results are saved as lossless PNG, no re-compression artifacts on top of the enhancement.

Questions & answers

Everything you might need to know before using the tool.

How much can I upscale an image?+
The tool offers 2× (doubles each dimension) and 4× (quadruples each dimension). A 500×500 image becomes 1000×1000 at 2× or 2000×2000 at 4×.
Will upscaling make a blurry photo look sharp?+
AI upscaling significantly improves sharpness and adds plausible detail compared to conventional resizing. For very blurry source images (motion blur, heavy compression artefacts), the AI can't perfectly reconstruct lost detail, but the result will still be considerably sharper than a standard resize.
Is my image uploaded when I upscale it?+
No. The AI model runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your image never leaves your device.
How long does upscaling take?+
Depends on image size and your device. A 500×500 image at 2× typically takes 5–15 seconds. Larger source images or 4× scaling takes longer. The model loads once on first use and is cached, so subsequent runs start immediately.
What is the maximum source image size?+
Very large source images (over 2000×2000 pixels) can take several minutes to process at 4× and may run into browser memory limits. For images over 1500×1500 pixels, 2× upscaling is recommended for reliable performance.
What formats are supported?+
Input: JPG, PNG, WebP. Output: PNG (lossless, no re-compression).
