How does browser-based PDF compression work?+

The tool re-serialises your PDF using pdf-lib, which strips unused objects, removes metadata, and rebuilds cross-references with object streams enabled. This typically reduces size by 10-40% on unoptimised PDFs.

Will my PDF look different after compression?+

No. Text, fonts, and vector graphics are preserved exactly. Image quality within the PDF is not changed - only structural overhead is removed.

Why didn't my PDF shrink much?+

PDFs that are already optimised (e.g. exported from Acrobat with compression) or that consist mainly of images may see minimal reduction. For image-heavy PDFs, the biggest gains come from reducing embedded image resolution, which requires a server-side tool.

Is the PDF sent to your servers?+
