What is Remove Watermark (AI)?

A watermark covers exactly the part of an image you want to show. Our AI watermark remover uses a state-of-the-art MI-GAN inpainting model (~40 MB ONNX) to reconstruct the hidden pixels from surrounding context - producing a clean, seamless result in seconds. The entire process runs inside your browser via WebAssembly and WebGPU. Your image never leaves your device, nothing is uploaded, and nothing is stored. The model loads once on first use and is cached locally so every subsequent watermark removal is instant.

Why use this tool?

Browser-based AI means zero upload latency and zero privacy risk. The MI-GAN pipeline v2 model reconstructs texture coherently even across complex backgrounds - grass, fabric, sky, brick, water reflections. Works on JPEG, PNG, and WebP up to ~10 MP. Brush size is adjustable from 10 px (fine detail) to 200 px (large watermark blocks). Multiple watermark areas can be cleaned in a single session without re-uploading. WebGPU is used automatically on supported browsers (Chrome 113+, Edge 113+) for 5-10× faster inference, with WebAssembly multi-threading as the fallback on every modern browser. Output downloads at full original resolution as PNG.

Common use cases

Remove stock-photo watermarks from reference images, erase Getty / Shutterstock / Alamy agency stamps, scrub Zoner Photo Studio / Snapseed / Lightroom export watermarks, clean up screenshots with UI labels, remove date/time burned into old photos, get rid of TikTok / Snapchat overlays, or eliminate unwanted logos. It also doubles as a general-purpose object remover for stray people, signs, lens flares, dust spots, and other distracting elements in product or travel photography.

How to use Remove Watermark (AI)

  1. 1Open the tool - the AI model starts downloading in the background (~40 MB, one-time)
  2. 2Upload your image (JPG, PNG, or WebP - up to ~10 MB, automatically resized to 4096 px max edge)
  3. 3Use the brush to paint over the watermark, logo, timestamp, or stray object you want removed
  4. 4Click "Remove" - the AI reconstructs the underlying pixels from surrounding context
  5. 5Brush more areas if needed and click Remove again, or hit Compare to see before/after
  6. 6Download the clean image as PNG - full resolution, no watermark, no signup

Frequently asked questions

Does my image get uploaded to a server?

No. The MI-GAN model runs entirely in WebAssembly (and WebGPU when available) inside your browser. Your image data never leaves your device. We do not log, store, or transmit anything. You can verify this by opening your browser DevTools → Network tab while you work - no requests carry your image bytes anywhere.

What types of watermarks can it remove?

Text watermarks, translucent logos, diagonal repeating stamps, agency watermarks (Getty, Shutterstock, Alamy, Adobe Stock), date/time overlays, social-media corner badges (TikTok, Snapchat), Zoner Photo Studio export marks, and small foreign objects. Very large or fully opaque watermarks covering most of the image are harder but still produce a usable result with careful brushing.

Does it work on photos with complex backgrounds?

Yes. MI-GAN is specifically trained on millions of real-world photos to inpaint realistic textures. It handles grass, sky, water, fabric, brick, hair, and busy backgrounds far better than simple clone-stamp or content-aware-fill tools.

How long does the AI model take to load?

The first load downloads ~40 MB (cached in IndexedDB thereafter). The download starts as soon as you open the tool, so by the time you have brushed an area it is usually ready. Processing a typical photo takes 1–5 seconds on CPU and well under a second on WebGPU-capable browsers.

Is there a file size limit?

Images are automatically resized to a maximum of 4096 px on the longest edge before processing. This keeps inference fast and memory usage safe on all devices, including mobile. The output is then upscaled back to your original dimensions before download.

Is this legal? Can I remove a watermark from any photo?

You should only remove watermarks from images you own or have explicit permission to modify. Removing watermarks to bypass licensing on stock photography, copyrighted material, or paid content is a copyright violation in most jurisdictions and against our terms of use. Common legitimate uses include cleaning your own photos exported with software watermarks, removing date stamps you added yourself, or restoring family photos.

Can I undo a step or compare with the original?

Yes. Every Remove action is added to a history strip below the canvas - click any thumbnail to revert. The Compare button shows the original underneath a draggable separator so you can see exactly what changed.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The tool works on iOS Safari 16+ and Android Chrome. WebAssembly inference is slower on mobile (typically 3–8 seconds per Remove) but the model is small enough to run on phones with 3 GB+ RAM.
